Our sustainability role models.
“There is no Planet B.”
An impactful quote making its rounds in the world of sustainability. Humankind is facing one of the greatest challenges to its existence: climate change.
Climate change receives a lot of attention as it has become part of our everyday conversations in recent years. Despite awareness increasing, we still have a long way to go.
It doesn't matter who you are, we all have a responsibility to inspire as many people as we can to fight against climate change.
Here are a few sustainable role models that we look up to:
Emma Watson
Emma Watson is known as Hollywood's Queen of Ethical Dressing. She serves as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, focusing on advocacy for women and girls. She is an early adopter of sustainable fashion. She uses her platforms to promote all brands that represent her beliefs. She only supports brands that work with zero-waste factories, ethically sources materials and are cruelty-free.
Livia Firth
Livia Firth is the co-founder of Eco-Age, a UK-based consulting company that helps popular brands like Stella McCartney, Chopard & Gucci to develop ethical and sustainable supply chains. She believes that we should ban fast fashion, and everyone should invest in slow fashion.
She grew up in the 70s and 80s. At this time, fast fashion didn't even exist. Clothing stores offered high-quality clothing at prices that better reflected their value. Everyone bought clothes with purpose. She is inspiring people to also buy their clothes with purpose and to start investing in slow fashion.
Livia is a UN Leader of Change award winner as well as a global ambassador for Oxfam. In the last decade, she has made people aware of the blinding issues of the fashion industry. She focuses mostly on human rights issues and environmental shortcomings.
Louisa Dellert
Louisa Dellert's journey started when she wanted to take an underwater picture, but noticed the plastic pollution in the ocean. She realised that our earth needs a solution. She founded a company called Naturalou. This is an online webshop where you can find environmental friendly as well as conscious products.
Louisa herself tries to live as sustainably as possible. With her social media account, she focuses on creating awareness about various sustainability topics and she helps people create a sustainable lifestyle.
Luisa Neubauer
At only 26 years old, Luise Neubauer is making a big impact on climate change. After high school, she spent a few months on an English eco-farm. Afterwards, she worked as a development aid worker in Tanzania. She is part of the German Fridays for Future movement. Fridays for Future is currently focusing on online education formats. She is also the author of a book about climate change.
She is currently studying Geology, and she is currently a very well known German climate icon.
Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg is only 18 years old, from Sweden. She is just an ordinary teenage girl, with a lot of courage to speak up about climate change. At such a young age, she is a role model for a lot of teenagers around the world. She has inspired many people to speak up about different issues.
Greta's journey started in primary school when a teacher showed a video of the effects of climate change. Unfortunately, she fell into a deep depression. Her family helped her by making small sustainable changes at home.
In 2018, she decided that she was going to skip school and strike to put pressure on the Swedish government. First, she was striking alone, but soon she inspired thousands of people to join her, worldwide.
Her speeches about climate change are incredible and hit you right in the gut.
